Susquehanna-Roseland Electric Reliability Transmission Project

Sussex County, New Jersey

The Kiewit and Henkels & McCoy team (Kh&m) was selected to construct the New Jersey portion of the Susquehanna to Roseland electric reliability transmission project.

The project featured the installation of a double circuit 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line running approximately 145 miles from the Susquehanna Switching Station near Berwick, Pennsylvania, across the Delaware River to the PSE&G Switching Station in the vicinity of Roseland, New Jersey. Kh&m was awarded the New Jersey portion (about 45 miles) of the S-R project, which is owned and operated by PSE&G.

The new transmission line was largely built within the existing transmission right of way of the Roseland to Kittatinny 230 kV transmission line. Additional scope of work included removing the existing transmission line, resulting in the removal of about two hundred 230 kV lattice steel structures and one 500 kV lattice steel structure.

The Kh&m team was responsible for access roads, erosion and sedimentation controls, foundation installation, steel pole and lattice structure erection, conductor and shield wire stringing, hardware and insulator installation, and fiber optic splicing.
